NOS’ Sportsman Fogger offers flexibility in nitrous injection
As forced induction technology continues to advance, so does the industry. Nitrous Oxide Systems understands the need to manufacture the most accurate and responsive, aftermarket induction systems possible, and this work ethic continues to be evident in the products they sell.
Always on the advance of nitrous-injection tech, NOS does it again with their all-new, Sportsman Fogger system. The Sportsman Fogger system is unique in that it uses a wider range of nitrous and fuel metering jets to build an increase of 50 to 150 BHP. But in the case of the Sportsman Fogger, it’s about much more than simply building instant power with the push of a button; NOS prides themselves on building a nitrous-injection system that delivers an accurate fuel/nitrous ratio at each individual port. The way that they achieve this balance is by placing individual jets within each nozzle. In the case of the Sportsman Fogger, these nozzles can be rejetted, allowing for optimal fuel delivery.
Although NOS does guarantee a horsepower gain of 50-150 BHP, the manufacturer does recommend that any application pushing past 40% of its original output use a forged bottom-end, including pistons and con rods. The Sportsman Fogger nitrous system includes a 10 lb.-capacity bottle, airforce-quality, steel-braided hoses, nitrous and fuel solenoids, “Fogger” injector nozzles, and all other needed hardware and electrical. NOS does also indicate that the engine needs to have its intake manifold removed during installation of the delivery system.
The kit is also available without a bottle, and for carbureted motors, NOS recommends using a fuel pump that delivers at a rate of 5 to 10 PSI with a flow rate of 0.1 gallons per hour (GPH), per horsepower at 6 PSI.
As is always the case with any application involving nitrous, NOS’ Sportsman Fogger system must be used with caution; the overwhelming cylinder pressures always pose a risk to the bottom-end of even the most built motors. But for a mere $793, NOS will sell you a nitro kit that can be just as variable and just as easily calibrated as any intercooled supercharger or turbo.
